ART FOR YOUR SPACES

The Origin of LAYARN

LAYARN began with a family memory.

In the autumn of 1980, Kimberly lived along the Pacific coastline. As winter approached, she carefully unraveled old handmade sweaters that had been worn throughout the previous year. Instead of discarding the yarn, she placed the curled fibers onto a steaming rack above a pressure cooker, allowing the warmth of the steam to gently restore the yarn’s original softness and smoothness.

The once-twisted fibers became straight, fluffy, and easy to work with again.

When rewoven, the yarn no longer curled, tangled, or lost its shape. It became softer, warmer, and more comfortable — perfectly suited to protect her family from cold winters and coastal storms.

This was not simply a technique. It was a way of caring.

  • A Family Tradition Woven Through Generations

Every autumn evening, as the ocean breeze moved through the house, candlelight stretched the shadows of Kimberly and her three sons across the walls.

Tommy, Daoism, and Jay watched their mother transform old yarn into new sweaters, hats, and handmade pieces filled with warmth and love.

The sound of the steaming pot, the colorful yarn resting nearby, and the quiet rhythm of knitting became a special family ritual.

The younger brothers wore sweaters recreated from their older brother’s garments. Each piece carried not only warmth but also memories — a symbol of family connection passed from one generation to another.

Neighbors admired Kimberly’s creations for their rich color combinations and distinctive handmade textures.

Her work was never about perfection.

It was about personality, emotion, and the beauty of something made by hand.

  • From Family Memory to Artistic Expression

When Tommy became an adult, he inherited Kimberly’s yarn workshop.

Although modern technology continued to transform the world, those handmade pieces remained special because of their imperfect lines, organic textures, and unique character.

Because a home is never just a physical space.

A home is warmth.

A home is memory.

A home is the collection of people, objects, colors, and stories that define who we are.

For many children, the handmade sweater from their childhood becomes a personal symbol — a visual memory of family, comfort, and belonging.

Just as Kimberly’s handmade creations became a symbol of her family, LAYARN believes every home deserves its own visual identity.

  • Rediscovering the Beauty of Handmade Living

With the rise of digital technology, 3D design, and artificial intelligence, many traditional crafts gradually became less visible in everyday life.

Handmade knitting, once part of family life, became a niche art form.

But the human desire for warmth and connection never disappeared.

Instead, handmade fibers found a new place — not only on people, but inside their homes.

Textile art began transforming living spaces.

It brought softness to empty walls.

It added dimension, texture, and sculptural beauty.

It created emotional connections between people and their surroundings.

From living rooms to bedrooms, kitchens to hallways, balconies to cozy corners, woven art became an essential element of modern interiors.

Even Cooper, the family’s golden retriever, naturally chose the comfort and softness of handmade textiles.

Because warmth is something every living being understands.

The Birth of LAYARN

However, as the market became increasingly focused on lower costs and faster production, many handmade traditions began losing their original character.

Natural materials were replaced.

Craftsmanship was simplified.

Price became more important than the story behind each creation.

One autumn afternoon, Tommy walked through the streets of Quebec with his wife Lekesi.

The maple leaves were falling through the mixed forests, creating a breathtaking palette of natural colors.

At that moment, Tommy wished he could preserve this season forever — its freedom, its organic beauty, and its imperfect harmony.

He believed:

  • True handmade art should never be replaced by something without soul.

Inspired by this idea, Tommy, Daoism, and Jay came together to create LAYARN.

A brand born from family memories.

A brand created for future living spaces.

A handmade art brand that connects tradition, creativity, and modern interior aesthetics.

  • Layarn Art For Spaces.Imagine a warm home.

Outside, there is architecture.

Inside, there are family members, friends, furniture, memories, and the personality of the people who live there.

Yet every space begins with emptiness.

Blank walls.

Empty corners.

Silent surfaces.

Without thoughtful decoration, a space can lose its character and creativity.

Too much distance between objects creates coldness.

Mass-produced furniture can make a home feel uniform.

Plastic storage boxes and ordinary decorations may solve practical problems, but they rarely express personal identity.

So how can a home become truly yours?

Perhaps every home needs a visual focal point.

Perhaps every space needs an artistic element that creates emotion.

LAYARN uses fiber, texture, and handcrafted lines to transform ordinary spaces into places with personality.

Our Craft, Our Materials

LAYARN explores the artistic language of different fibers: Mohair.Fabric yarn.Cotton-filled yarn.etc.

Each material carries its own texture, softness, and visual expression.

From fiber wall art and woven tapestries to blankets, cushions, rugs, and handcrafted bags, every piece is designed to bring warmth, color, and individuality into modern interiors.

This year, Daoism and his wife Nancy expanded LAYARN into handmade woven bags — bringing the same philosophy from home decoration into everyday life.

LAYARN believes handmade art should be:

  • Original.
  • Organic
  • Sustainable
  • Timeless

We hope to bring warmth, creativity, and unique family stories into thousands of homes around the world.

Because a home is more than a place.

A home is a feeling.

And every feeling deserves a texture.
